Mayor Inday Sara Duterte ordered government forces to step up security measures in Davao City.

Mayor Inday has asked the security forces to provide a holistic plan that could further improve the security measures being implemented today in the city.

The statement came after a suspected terrorist was killed in a shootout early Tuesday morning. The unidentified terror suspect was carrying an improvised explosive device (IED).

“I told them to come up with a holistic plan to address the concern of terrorism and to ensure that the people are safe,” she said.

The suspected terrorist was killed in a shootout with police operatives after he and his companion were flagged down in a checkpoint in Magtuod, Ma-a. The still unidentified companion fled onboard a motorcycle.

Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum, the city police chief, said the unexploded IED recovered from the slain suspect was similar to the IED used in the Roxas Night Market bombing last September 2.

Tagum said that based on their investigation, the suspect came from either Basilan or Sulu.

“We are still making validation and intelligence build up as to the identity of the suspect and also the (actual) group that he belonged to,” he said.

Tagum said that they have also coordinated with neighboring cities and municipalities for the possible apprehension of the suspect’s companion. CIO
