1st Kadayawan Dragon Boat Festival kicks off
The two-day 1st Kadayawan Dragon Boat Festival slated in the city from August 12-13 kicked off at the Sta. Ana Wharf, Magsaysay Avenue Saturday.
The event gathered around 12 Dragon Boat teams from all over the country, said Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) head Gene Rose Tecson.
The inclusion of the Dragon Boat Festival in this year’s Kadayawan celebration will show that the city is a potential venue for the hosting of a national or international Dragon Boat competitions.
The participating teams are the following: Philippine AirForce, PNP Maritime, Aquaforts, SeaHawks, Taytay Boys Jr., Ariya DB Club Cebu, Dipolog Paddlers, Malita Banakon Paddlers and Team Hilera Dumaguete. The paddlers from Davao are Kampilan, Dragons del Sur and The Boatman Paddlers.
There are different competition divisions for the race namely the Open Standard Boar with 20 paddlers, Open Small Boat with20 paddlers, Mixed Standard Boat with 20 paddlers, Mixed Small Boat with 10 paddlers and Womens Small Boat with 10 paddlers.
The Kadayawan Dragon Boat Festival is supported by the city government of Davao and the Philippine Sports Commissioned, and sanctioned and officiated by the Philippine Canoe Kayak and Dragon Boat Federation (PCKDBF). CIO
