Mayor Inday Sara Duterte personally welcomed participants to the Public Symposium on Building ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and Nation Building at the Marco Polo Hotel yesterday.

The public symposium was part of the series of activities in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It can be recalled that the mayor led the ceremonial lighting of the ASEAN lantern early this month.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my highest commendations to all the speakers, panelists, facilitators, organizers, guests and distinguished delegates for your cooperation in this symposium,” she said.

Among those present during the symposium were former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Civil Service Commission chair Alicia Bala, ASEAN deputy secretary general for ASCC Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee, and senior adviser on ASEAN Larry Maramis.

“We are humbled that this symposium is conducted in our beloved city and are looking forward to a wave of sessions shared with you,” Mayor Inday said.

The symposium was co-hosted by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), the Mindanao Development Authority, the ASEAN Sociey and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East ASIA – with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Philippine Mission to the ASEAN. CIO
