Guidelines on localized peace talks coming

October 5, 2017 By

The Davao City Local Peace Committee (DC-PEACE) will convene next week for the formulation of guidelines that will govern communications with the New People’s Army (NPA) here.

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said that the first meeting of the DC-PEACE aims to create the guidelines, which the entire committee has to follow.

She said that the committee would serve as a channel between the city government and the rebels.

“We will just open the channel of communication if they are interested to talk, then there will be people authorized by the city government to talk to them,” Mayor Inday said.

Earlier, Mayor Inday said the city government will be very flexible in communicating with the rebels in her bid to achieve a just and lasting peace in the city, amid renewed NPA attacks.

She said the city government was also willing to hire the rebels as long as they decided to return to the government’s fold. CIO
