Mayor Inday Sara Duterte yesterday turned over a van and five ballistic shields to the Davao City Police Office-Special Weapons and Tactics (DCPO-SWaT) Team.

“We turn over this newly-acquired vehicle and ballistic shields for a more effective, more responsive services by the special weapons and tactics team of the DCPO,” Mayor Inday said.

She said that amid the continuing threat from terrorists, it is important to enhance the counter-terrorism equipment of defense units such as the DCPO SWAT.

Mayor Inday said the customized vehicle and tactical accessories are hoped to strengthen the city’s stance against security challenges.

“To the members of the DCPO-SWAT, may these facilities boost your confidence and speed up your mobility on the ground against crime and lawlessness,” she said.

Mayor Inday asked the DCPO to consider the van and shields as a form of token and appreciation of the city government of Davao for the police’s support in safeguarding the people.

It is hoped that with the support of the government, more sophisticated tactical equipment would be obtained for the city’s defense teams.

“These along with prayers and preparation are our best weaponry against the common enemy of hostility,” she said. While threat is inevitable, she said, victory is always a possibility and the ticket to such victory is continuous improvement.

DCPO Director Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum thanked the city government for its overwhelming and notable support to the city’s police force.

“Rest assured that this equipment will serve its utmost purpose in helping the DCPO-SWAT Team in achieving its goal of meeting the needs of Davao City,” Tagum said.

Tagum said the van and the shields will play a very important role in DCPO-SWAT’s effective tactical response to counter high-level threat to the lives or safety of Dabawenyos. CIO
