Charm of People’s Park sparkles this Christmas
Davao City’s popular People’s Park has been drawing more and more visitors these days as it has been transformed into one of the city’s Christmas destinations.
Visitors step right into a floor of dancing lights — the shade of soft neon pink, green, and blue. The trees around the park are also wrapped with lights that warmly illuminate the entire place, adding another layer of charm into the natural green landscape of the enclosed park located right at the center of the city.
Every night, starting 5pm to 9pm, children get a fun time with Santa Claus, who also distributes candies to them and pose for pictures with them.
Before Christmas, the City Government of Davao reconstructed the Fun Park area — where children can play.
Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said the park was facelifted to make it more friendly and safe to children.
A total of P4.5 million was allocated for the renovation of the fun park, which included the rubber mat floor that protects children from injuries.
The mat measures 360 square meters.
“We reconstructed the fun park area so that we can comply with the safety standard that is a requirement for a children’s playground,” she said.
Park manager Architect Jenny Ann Matuguinas said that the recent development of the park had brought in more local and foreign tourists.
“We observed an increase (in the number) of people visiting People’s Park. Whether they are Dabawenyos or foreigners, we can really see that they are enjoying our park,” Matuguinas said.
The park opens as early as 5 am until 10 in the evening. CIO
