A multi-million housing project for poor residents here moved a step closer to reality when the 18th City Council approved the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the City Government of Davao and SM Development Corporation (SMDC) for the undertaking.

Councilors on Tuesday voted on and approved the MOA under suspended rules.

The MOA states that SMDC will shoulder all the expenses for the construction of the project on a government-owned lot in Barangay Lasang, which measures a total of 146,700 square meters.

The project will cost SMDC P322,454,000.

“The developers (SMDC) shall at their expense, cause the design, engineering and construction of the land development for the property, which shall include the construction of roads, drainage, and open space facilities,” the MOA reads.

The housing project will benefit Dabawenyos who do not have houses of their own.

In her 2nd State of the City Address, Mayor Inday Sara Z. Duterte made mention of the continuing efforts to help less fortunate residents under the poverty alleviation project of the City Government.

Poverty alleviation is part of the 10-point priority agenda of Mayor Inday under the Byaheng DO30 project. CIO
